A downloadable tool for macOS and Android

KiraStudio is a lightweight, cross-platform music studio built for clarity, automation, and sound creation. Compose in a fully featured piano roll, build custom instruments by assembling "generators", and connect everything through flexible effect chains.

Automation is at the core: shape nearly any parameter over time using ADSR envelopes, LFO-style curves, and step sequences with powerful editors. Create motion, dynamics, and evolving textures with precision.

With support for SoundFonts (SF2/SF3), sampling, wavetable and FM synthesis, plus MIDI import/export and WAV/OGG export, KiraStudio scales from quick sketches to full projects. A focused interface keeps you in the creative flow on desktop and mobile.

While KiraStudio is currently focused on video game music, its sound engine is built to grow into other genres in the near future.

I've tried it for a little bit, and I really like it so far!  Is there a way to make an instrument use portamento with it, though?  I'm trying to make a sliding trombone sound.

So is the mac version not free?

Its payable.

Hi, no idea if there is a better place for small feature requests but it would be VERY nice to be able to search through SoundFont presets. Currently having to scroll through the gigantic list is a bit annoying, especially since they seem to be sorted by category (at least the default SoundFont), which makes sense but you have to learn the categories first, then what instruments are in what category.

Yes, this has been requestied many times, will come at some point. Cant say when unfortunately.

I just tried this. Its very intuitive and easy to work. The only thing I didn't think was very intuitive was the song settings(length, signature, etc). A quick watch of the youtube tutorial covered that so it wasnt that big of a deal.

Overall it was a great experience! I like the pattern feature where editing one changes all instances of it. I've only got back to making music recently and I was mainly using soundfonts and LMMS, but I think I'll be playing around a bit more with this one instead :)

This DAW is amazing!! The amount of features is insane, and I've been enjoying experimenting with it so far (even though I don't have much music knowledge, lol).

Is there a way to import sound files? It's one of the only few things I was really wanting to see because I make vocal covers, but I tried dragging and dropping files and it hasn't worked. If it was not added yet, I hope it will be soon! Thank you so much for even releasing this for free, it's seriously an awesome project.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah you can import "samples" which are limited to 60 seconds right now, and drop-and-drop does not work yet, as you saw. There will be proper raw sample tracks for vocals in the future, but alas, not yet.

In the project explorer (right side panel) look at the top where it says something like "Project -> Song 1 -> Channel XYZ" and click on the project. This is like a folder structure you can navigate. At the root of the project is a list of samples, press the (+) Add button to load some. Then you can use those in a PCM sampler generator, but assigning them to the sample map . The documentation is extremely lacking regarding this and will improve in the future.

This seems to be an amazing tool! Is there plans for other PC platforms like Linux and MACOS?

Already on MacOS, app store. Linux not likely, runs very well on Wine.

This. Is. AMAZING! I have been looking for something like this FOREVER. it's perfect! it has soundfont support, sampling and everything else I need. It combines the best of Fl Studio and Famistudio all into one simple package. thank you for making this. However, my only complaint is that it often randomly crashes. I may have to redownload it. but other than that, I LOVE this. can't wait for more updates!

Thanks!!!

It's looking great from what I've seen so far on the windows version. I do think the 9 euro's for the Android version is a bit steep for something without a demo.

Any plans for a demo maybe? It's a bit hit or miss for me whether a touch-screen interface works for me. But if it's intuitive enough that 9 euro's are nothing.

Also, I wonder if you plan on not supporting a native Linux version, but maybe support a version which you package with Proton or Wine yourself?

And lastly: It would be AMAZING if you'd add Synth_Dexed as an instrument. I've been playing with that lately and it's great. Plus, being able to use existing carts as presets is really great:

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe i'll do a demo one day, i'll be honest I focus on coding the app and very little time went into the "how to distribute it". I just uploaded it and set a price. I'll try to think of something better in the future. My idea right now was the the Windows version is basically the demo until we get something better.

Native linux, probably not, Im so busy with 4 platforms, Linux support tend to be a bit scary since every distro/hardware behave slightly differently, in meantime ill commit to making sure it runs buttery smooth on wine.

I dont know about that synth but it seems to have a lot of stuff. My plan is to have smaller pieces that you decide how to combine. Well see how that goes.

Thanks for your respone, fully understandable :)

FWIW: The synth I linked is modelled to the Yamaha DX7, which in turn has a chip that was used in some Sega systems IIRC. So it would fit Kira Studio ;-)

But yeah, keep up the good work it's amazing already

KiraStudio is awesome! Are there any future plans to be able to select scales and keys in the piano roll and blank off notes which aren't included. Really like that feature in JummBox.

Yes this has already been requested. I put it in the TODO list, cant really tell you when this will come tho. This is just a hobby, i work on it in my spare time.

are there any plans to open the source code to the public under a GPL, MIT or Apache licence?

Probably not unfortunately since there is a paid version. My other app FamiStudio is open source, you can check that out.

maybe a source available licence like aseprite? that restricts people from sharing binaries but allows the source code to be viewed and contributed to? so you can still sell the binary as a product and not allow others to redistribute your software under copyright?

if not i completely understand, and i love the work you are doing, this program is amazing and i cant sing its praises enough.

Probably not. There are some countries where these kind of license (or IP law in general) isn't respected at all, and i am not sending cease and desist letters oversea. I'm a coder, not a lawyer.

Of course thats perfectly understandable, thank you for responding and ill be sure to buy a copy on the playstore to support the development.

I just encountered a crash. I tried to paste a tempo value from Audacity into KiraStudio, but it turned out hitting Ctrl+C hadn't actually copied the value, so I'd accidentally pasted lord knows what into the tempo in KiraStudio, which I'm pretty sure is what caused the crash

Other than that, I'm having a blast recreating a movie soundtrack with the app

(+1)

Oh sorry about the crash. Remember there are autosaves every 2 minutes (in the settings you can open the folder). So if it happens again, you pretty much never loose work.

No need, I save manually pretty often xd

There is another bug I forgot to mention tho, that's still there even in 1.0.2:

When I open the "export to audio" menu, and right click on any part of the "channels" box (so the "select all/select none" dropdown shows up), the program behaves as if the menu wasn't open

So if I left click outside of the dropdown and, say, above the piano roll, it adds a note where I clicked. So I have to close the export menu and undo the change before opening the menu again

(+1)

If you could open a bug on Github or Discord that'd be better. Itch io comments arent really the place to report bugs.

So my mouse's middle button is broken. Is there something like Blender's alternate mouse mode that replaces it with a keyboard key? (Left Alt in the case of Blender)

(+1)

We have something like that in my other app (FamiStudio), unfortunately it hasnt carried over to KiraStudio since I rewrote a lot of the code. I'll try to bring that back eventually.

Thanks! Looking forward to it

seems to work just fine via wine, thanks for your amazing work!

(+1)

Thanks! I'll try to keep wine super smooth. I already notice some little issues with missing pixels on Wine with Intel GPUs, I hope to fix that soon.

I would love to use KiraStudio, but I’ve been experiencing frequent crashes and flashing images (My PC is low-ended). 😭

Hi! That's a bit worrying. First thing would be to see if you can upgrade your graphics drivers. Otherwise, its a bit difficult to diagnose without more information. Come to see us on Discord if you ever want to give us more info.

No MacOS support???

Mac app store, link is there. Click it.

Hello! This looks like a really awesome daw! Are you guys planning or considering adding vst support in the future?

(+1)

on twitter they said no.

"No. And that's on purpose. Im going for something simpler, more approachable."

lol instant download. going to try out windows version using proton or wine on fedora

Wine runs perfectly.

free for commercial projects?

(+1)

Yes, your songs are yours, no strings attached.

Oh nice! Can't wait to try this out!😁

(+3)

it's been six hours and still no linux :(

(+1)

Sorry no Linux port this time. But it runs buttery smooth with Wine according to multiple reports.
